GRATITUDES + BREAKTHROUGHS // May 2, 2017
Gratitudes
Wednesday I welcomed over my sisters and their SOs for a cook-out and s’mores by the firepit. We feasted on hot dogs and hamburgers with a smorgasbord of sides. Later we sparked up the fire pit and sat with wine, conversation and created Hershey’s and Reeses’ s’mores.
Thursday morning brought with it a much needed girls day with fellow #girlbosses Alicia Bruce of Love Knot Photo, Tori Heer and Paula Bartosiewicz-Reese. We meet at Petite Loulou Creperie + Bar à Vins for their coffee, pastries and of course their crepes. I went for a savory crepe with prosciutto, goat cheese and fig jam, and it was amazing. Later I snagged a chocolate croissant and 4 speciality macaroons. Besides the food, the company was amazing. We chatted for hours about our businesses, goals for 2017, travel adventures and ways to grow our business. Owning a business is rewarding, but it is also lonely. The majority of my days are spent in my house with the animals, so meeting with other women who work hard to build and grow their business organically is immensely rewarding. I’m so grateful to have had their influence, opinions and support.
On Friday, I finally experienced the escape room craze. We went to a place in downtown Leesburg called EXIT>PLAN It was so much fun! Five of us choose to experience the hardest room called S3r1al. It was based on popular horror movies with lead serial killers think movies like Saw, Silence of the Lambs, etc. To start each of us was handcuffed in various parts of the room with the lights off. We had to work together in the darkness to find the keys to free ourselves and get ourselves out of the room. We solved the puzzle in 35 minutes, or so we thought until another room opened up! We got so pumped and walked into what looked like an old kitchen. It took us another 15 minutes to solve that puzzle and we thought for sure we were done, but then the refrigerator door opened to another room. We were scrambling now because we had less than 10 minutes to complete the last room. We didn’t make it out in time. Turns out the room we selected had a 30% pass rate, and we made it to the 3rd room out of 4. If you haven’t had a chance to go or were on the fence about it, go! It was so fun, so much so we are already planning our next escape!
I should probably post a few pictures soon of my ever growing plant collection. Two years ago I jokingly mentioned that I had never been successful in keeping plants alive and something clicked and I sort of have a knack for it now. I enjoy nurturing them and watching them change slightly. Some grow really fast others have subtle changes, but I enjoy looking for them. This week I added a new Money Tree to my collection. These cute little trees have braided trunks and sprout large leaves periodically. Does anyone have recommendations on additional plants to add to my collection?
This week you’ll find me in one of my spring staple nail colors: Lucky Lucky Lavender. As usual, it’s creme based and this light purple resembles it’s flower name but with a touch of pink. It’s light, feminine and the perfect accessory for spring!
Breakthroughs
Being okay, with being unsure.
Some life paths are paved in golden bricks with clearly printed signs and a map with straightforward directions, sometimes those paths have to be forged. I’m working on letting go of needing concrete answers and enjoying the present moment. I’ve been acknowledging the unsure, embracing the unknown and staying positive to what the future will hold for me. How else will I remain present? If I’m constantly looking for solid answers to the future then I’m not looking, interacting and taking pleasure in what’s right in front of me.
I’m hopeful for the future and what that will bring for me, but for right now I need to be okay with being unsure.
As always, thanks for reading. xoxo.
