GRATITUDES + BREAKTHROUGHS // MARCH 27, 2018
Gratitudes
My schedule is filling up with spring engagement sessions and I was excited to shoot one last week! Rachel has been a dear friend for a while and she finally found her better half, Tyler. Together we planned for a trip up to Skyline Drive to soak up the views and that warm Virginia sunset. What I didn’t plan for was the 211 intake station to be closed, so we took a hell of a long detour around the central Virginia passing through valley towns like Luray, Elkton and Shenandoah. It added almost an additional hour of drive time to our trip, but once we got up there it was worth it. There was so much snow left on the ground from that late March snow last week. We had so much fun exploring and driving through some of Virginia’s most famous views! I can’t wait to show you the full gallery!
The majority of my week was dedicated to packing again and moving. It will officially end this week and I couldn’t be more excited. I was able to remove the rest of my furniture and anything else I couldn’t pick up and move myself. It’s all neatly wrapped and placed into the garage until my next big move. I have gone through this a little slower than I originally imagined, but I’m happy with my progress. I’ve put a lot of intention in my packing and what I’m keeping; meaning I’ve donated a lot and let go of a few things that were emotionally heavy. This week all that is left is the kitchen, and if you know me at all personally you know that this room will be the easiest. I hate cooking so I just have the basics – meaning this will be quick and painless.
I moved yoga studios and joined Stafford House of Yoga. This is the studio where I completed my yoga teacher training. It was so nice to take a class with a fellow teacher, Brandi and also to hop back into their friendly environment. This is the only studio I have ever stepped into where it felt like a warm welcoming home versus a fitness studio. They have a sitting room with couches that feels like a friends living room with hot tea, water and a bookshelf full of yoga and health books. After my sequence class my body felt great, even though I was hit with a nasty yoga hangover.
Keys To My Karma didn’t last a full week last week. It had to be removed. I should probably explain my process in painting my nails – maybe one day – let’s just say I fell asleep with them wet and they got a really nice sheet print on them that I couldn’t paint over. So late in the week I switched it over to Cement the Deal, a cool light gray just in time for the snow.
Breakthrough
Change is tough for everyone. That’s what I was reminded of this week. As you know, I’ve been moving back into my parents house so on my end the transition has been hard. I’ve been moving and packing and saying goodbye to a life and a house I build for the last two years to help rebuild. Selfishly I’ve thought about how this has affected me both physically and emotionally. It didn’t cross my mind that this move I’m making effects the dogs as well. I’ve been noticing weird and unusual behavior from both Ava + Mosby. Ava is familiar with my parents, their house and property. She’s the queen of the house now that she’s the oldest. She runs outside free and unsupervised. In the house she takes her place on top of the couch with the softest blanket or snuggled on my Dad’s squishy pillow on my parents bed. She’s usually pretty chill besides the occasional demand for a bone. This time though, she’s been hiding a lot; trying to avoid contact with my parents two young boston terriers Ziva and Zoey. She’s dig herself under covers or hide in a dog bed away from the playing and chaos. Recently though she’s added a slow walk which looks like a neck injury until I pick her up and remove her from the crowd…and then she is fine. I think Ava knows we are here to stay for a while and she is protesting.
Mosby on the other hand is having a harder time. He’s really unsure where he is and why we are there. He’s completely housebroken, at least he was at my house and now he’s having regular accidents in the house. And it’s definitely not marking. This has made things challenging with my parents as my 60 pound dog is unleashing his bladder on their floor. Big sigh. He’s so happy playing with both Ziva and Zoey, and I think him and Zoey have become best friend. They play together, look for each other and snuggle on the couch together. Outside he’s had a few mishaps too. He’s been able to run free and unsupervised like Ava at my old house, but here I have to be careful. We have a close neighbor with a dog, as well as a cattle farm nearby. I’ve been trying to work with him on being able to run wild, while knowing that he has to come back to this house now. Yesterday we went on a long walk on the property without the lease so he could run, well he ran right into the pond. I didn’t see it happen but I heard the big splash! He was so surprised and freezing! He ended up running laps around my parents house until he calmed down so I could bring him inside for a bath.
It’s been a long couple of weeks and I’m just now noticing how this is change is affecting their behavior and sense of security. I’ll be trying to reassure both of them that I’m here, we are safe and we will be fine.
As always, thanks for reading. xoxo.
