GRATITUDES + BREAKTHROUGHS // SEPTEMBER 4, 2018
Gratitudes
It’s been a while since I’ve shared a gratitudes + breakthroughs post. Since I got back from Europe things have been full swing, so I’m going to catch you up a little.
Amy + Blake had the most gorgeous enchanted garden wedding at Airlie! These two had a lilac and dusk wedding with so many unique touches that helped make their day special. Rachel with The One Moment Events helped them curate the idea for the enchanted garden and worked closely with Julie of Beaumont House Design to have insanely gorgeous florals including tables covered in moss! Guests found their place cards made of river stones with delicate hand lettering done by postskript. Amy + Blake decided on a live band which was an awesome choice their dance floor was full all night. I’ll be sharing more of their special day on the blog with all of their details soon!
While I was away my Grandpa Ron had a silent heart attack and was hospitalized. It was a tough time to be so far away. They did an exploratory surgery to see how serious his condition was and the initial results weren’t hopeful. He and my Grandma Jean had 3 options as far as his healthcare: have a bypass surgery (this would have been his 3rd) but the doctors were concerned he would survive the actual surgery, help alleviate symptoms by treating it with medicine which would give him about 6-12 months of life, or have an additional less invasive surgery that would remove the blockages and give his heart another 10 years. Together after 60 years of marriage and the determination of my Grandpa he choose option 3. He had the surgery while I was away and I was able to Facetime him when he went into recovery. Nothing makes you feel small and far away like a family member in the hospital. He made it through and they sent him home, unfortunately his kidneys went into failure due to dehydration and also the contrast they used for his testing. He went back in to the hospital the day I flew home from Ireland. By Wednesday I visited the hospital everyday to make sure my Grandma had support and also to keep my Grandpa’s spirit up! I’m happy to report as of last week he was released with almost full kidney function and no need for dialysis! I’ll also share that while he was in the hospital, my Grandma told me that she was so glad we did their 60 anniversary portraits and that while she was at home at night (away from him) she would flip through the album she made. Just another example of how powerful photography really is!
I cannot wait to share with you the engagement session I did with Annika + Jeremy at Chrysalis Vineyards in Middleburg. You guys know I pour wine there in the off season and I’ve been dreaming up an engagement session for over a year! These two trusted me and I promise you the property and the wine didn’t disappoint! I’ll be sharing that with y’all soon!
I was back in time to join my industry gals for our supper club, we’ve been getting more sophisticated with our planning and this time we followed through hard with the theme Southern Comfort. Rachel Rice of The One Moment Events hosted as well as planned and decorated her formal dining room. It was seriously fit for a feature in Southern Living or Garden & Gun! Rachel’s tablescape was inspired by dusty blues, family traditions, comfort food and silver dinner wear that was passed down to her from her Grandmother and Mom. It was welcoming and warm, two key characteristics that make up southern hospitality. I’ll also be sharing that on the blog soon as well! I’m excited for Septembers theme which is Under the Tuscan Sun – you know how much I love Italy!
I took 2 days and drove down to Richmond to see my business coach Kristen Kalp and my homegirl – fellow photographer – and friend Alicia Bruce. Alicia introduced me to Kristen earlier in the year and she has been an important part of the changes that have been taking place behind the scenes for my business. The 3 of us gals had a sleep over at Quirk Hotel filled with headshots, business chat and so many laughs! I’ll be updating my website little by little with new branding headshots where I planned my actual outfits around the type of wine I was drinking. I am obsessed with my red wine outfit! More to come soon!
I also wrote about a month ago about my experience with Smile Direct Club. I got my assessment and I decided to move forward with their program. I ordered my aligners last week and I’m set to start using them in October. My correction plan is scheduled to take 5 months so in the beginning of 2019 I’ll have a new and improved smile!
Breakthroughs
Traveling always brings about breakthroughs, but to be perfectly honest with you today I’m tired. I’ve shared with you a glimpse of my world since I’ve been back. I also shot two weddings this past weekend as well as a newborn session. So in order for me to truly have today off I’m going to leave this blank. The pool and pups are calling my name. Until next week friends!
