GRATITUDES + BREAKTHROUGHS // JANUARY 16, 2018
Gratitudes
Big news this week was I was selected for the 2nd year in a row for The Couples’ Choice Award with WeddingWire. It was a huge honor to receive it the first time, and to know now that two years in a row I’ve been able to provide lasting memories for my clients and a noteable client experience is really amazing!
This past week I still battled my cold. I’m fairly certain I ended up with some type of flu because it’s almost been two full weeks of not feeling good. I’ve been trying all-of-the-things, what did help was a little r+r at my parents house. I snuggled up as close to the woodstove as I could get and I think it started to dry this cold up. I opted to crash at my parents place this weekend (two pups in tow) to check off one of my new year’s goals by working with a local yoga studio.
I hung out with Linda Osorio at Stafford House of Yoga all morning for a round of headshots, studio work and two hot yoga classes. She’s been a place for peace and healing in the community for over 5 years. If you remember, I also got my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training certificate through her studio. I have been practicing yoga for almost 10 years, and I knew I wanted to deepen my understanding of the practice and possibly teach. I had a HUGE breakthrough though during training, I found myself scribbling in the margins of my notebooks ideas for a yoga photography business. I’ve been daydreaming and mapping out a few details to get this little passion project off of the ground and Linda is helping me! I’ll be sharing the details of this project and her studio soon!
Sunday I had a scheduled meeting to interview for a potential wedding this year (yay!). I was so excited to try this new coffee shop that opened up down the road from my parents house, if you’ve ever lived on 10 acres in the middle of nowhere then you know the internet struggles. I ran down their early to get set up, place my order and prep for the call… only this was place closed. What… a coffee shop on a Sunday. I had to think fast and seeing as the only other place close by was Sheetz I decided to do the interview in my car. It was sort of hilarious, I had my phone connected as a hotspot for my computer so we could Facetime. My computer was set on top of my dashboard so it was even and they could see me. I also thought you know, while I’m in the car I should play a little music so I chose Taylor Swifts new album Reputation. With all of the hiccups the interview worked out well and I will be signing the couple. I like to think that my ability to adapt and think quickly helped seal the deal, also I couldn’t stop giggling because I could see myself and the back of my seat headrest in the camera!
After my meeting I headed out to Fredericksburg with my whole family to celebrate my Grandparents 60th wedding anniversary. Grandma + Grandpa were surrounded by their family all day. We enjoyed a massive meal and listened to the two of them tell stories about how they met, their first dates and their wedding. Sixty years is wildly uncommon now, and while I was there I realized I’ll likely never reach 60 with my future partner – I would have to get married tomorrow and live to be in my early 90s. It truly is something special. The picture above is a shot of my Grandmother on her wedding day, I’ll be sharing pictures from their original album on Thursday as well as a special treat!
Also on Sunday, Kellyn and Ken asked me a big, huge question. They asked if I would like to be Evelyn’s Godmother! Yup, this girl right here has a new official title as Godmother. I hope Evelyn’s ready to be spoiled even more!
I was also published in the Middleburg Life January 2018 issue! This was their annual wedding issue! I’ll be sharing more of the details on Friday, but I am so honored to be included this year
On to more important things like nail polish, I skipped back over to a lighter shade in OPI’s Iceland collection. I’ve talked about this one before, because I love it and it’s the perfect winter neutral. I’ll have a Gin & Tectonic is a muted mauve with a touch of warmth. It’s also a creme finish because you know I hate pearly-shine.
Breakthroughs
My family celebrates everything. Seriously, anything that you could potentially celebrate we celebrate. A new job, a new client, anniversary, completing a yoga challenge – the Norman family likes to get down. Every party isn’t wrapped around gifts, coordinating paper goods and speciality cocktails instead it’s focus is on togetherness. More often than not, we have potlucks (I’m typically not in charge of anything important) and plan around football, basketball and baseball games. This weekend for my Grandparents 60th I realized how special it was that we all make an effort to get together so often. I know some families aren’t as close, but mine is and it’s something that I find important.
As always friends, thanks for reading. xoxo
